Continuing her education, Dr. Fernandez trained as an infectious diseases fellow at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital. During her fellowship, she served as Chief Infectious Disease Fellow and received the 2020 Best Infectious Disease Fellow Award. She completed the Transplant Infectious Disease Fellowship in June 2021 and subsequently joined Infectious Disease Associates of Tampa Bay.
Board certified in internal medicine and infectious disease, Dr. Fernandez is recognized as a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.
Actively involved on a professional level, Dr. Fernandez is a member of organizations such as the American College of Physicians, the Infectious Diseases Society of America, and the American Society of Transplantation. She has contributed to practice improvement committees during her residency and presented at national meetings.
Infectious disease is a medical specialty dealing with prevention, the diagnosis, and treatment of infections. An infectious disease specialist’s practice also consists of managing nosocomial (hospital-acquired) infections.
