Dr. Karen Gear, a distinguished endodontist with over three decades of dental experience, is the Founder of Martha’s Vineyard Endodontics, bringing her expertise and passion for patient care to the island community. After spending 29 successful years practicing in New York City, she now provides her specialized services to the residents of Martha’s Vineyard.
Before embarking on her professional journey, she earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Howard University in 1989 and completed her Endodontic Specialty Certificate at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in 1993. Her extensive training and experience encompass both surgical and nonsurgical endodontic procedures, with a particular emphasis on managing traumatic dental injuries, avulsions, luxation injuries, and endodontic infections. She is also skilled in treating cases involving incomplete root formation in developing teeth.
On a professional level, Dr. Gear is a proud member of several professional organizations, including the American Association of Endodontists, Massachusetts Dental Society, and the American Dental Association. Her previous involvement with the New York Society of Forensic Dentistry and the 9/11 World Trade Center Dental Identification Team highlights her commitment to service, even in the most challenging circumstances.
Throughout her career, she has been an active advocate for education and mentorship within the dental community. She served as an assistant clinical professor at Harlem Hospital Center, where she played a pivotal role in training the next generation of dental professionals.
