Dr. Jose G. Diez a distinguished general and interventional cardiologist with extensive expertise in various cardiovascular conditions. He serves as a senior research scientist in interventional cardiology and as a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine.

Dr. Diez brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to THI at BSLMC, focusing on acute coronary syndromes, aortic syndromes, valvular disease, atherothrombosis, and innovative interventional strategies. He is particularly recognized for his work with transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI/TAVR) and advancing new therapies for patients with aortic valve disorders. His research interests also include antiplatelet and antithrombin therapy, vascular biology, and the clinical applications of interventional devices.

A graduate of Pontifical Xavierian University Faculty of Medicine in Bogotá, Colombia, Dr. Diez completed his internal medicine residency at the same institution and furthered his training at Boston University. He honed his skills in cardiovascular diseases and interventional cardiology at the Texas Heart Institute, where he served as chief fellow. Dr. Diez has held significant academic roles, including director of invasive cardiology at the Baylor Heart Clinic and director of clinical and interventional research at Tulane University School of Medicine.

Board-certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, and interventional cardiology, Dr. Diez is recognized as a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography & Interventions, and he actively participates in several professional organizations, including the Texas Heart Institute Cardiac Society, the AHA Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis, and Vascular Biology Council, the American College of Physicians, and the National Marfan Foundation. 

Professionally, Dr. Diez is a member of the interventional cardiology team at THI at BSLMC, consults for the cardiology department at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, and is affiliated with Houston Methodist Hospital, Hall-Garcia Cardiology at BCM, and Park Plaza Hospital. Additionally, he contributes his expertise as an associate editor of the Texas Heart Institute Journal.
