Tuskegee and Auburn, Alabama – Athema Etzioni, DVM, MS, DACVP, a Board Certified Veterinary Clinical Pathologist, has been recognized for her significant contributions to the field of veterinary medicine. With expertise in diagnostic clinical pathology and clinical veterinary medicine, Dr. Etzioni embodies a unique blend of professionalism and charisma that engages clients and enhances the veterinary experience.
Dr. Etzioni’s journey in veterinary medicine began with a strong academic foundation. Homeschooled and motivated from a young age, she entered Xavier University of Louisiana in 1994, earning her Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology Pre-Medicine in 1997. Her passion for veterinary medicine led her to Tuskegee University College of Veterinary Medicine, where she earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree in 2001. Following an internship in Veterinary Clinical Pathology, she completed her residency and Master of Science Degree at Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2005. She became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists, and is the first black female certified by the college in Clinical Pathology.
Currently, Dr. Etzioni serves as a Relief/Associate Small Animal Veterinarian at South College Veterinary Clinic in Auburn, AL, and at Union City Veterinary Medical Center and Emergency Clinic in Union City, GA. She is a respected Associate Professor of Clinical Pathology at Tuskegee University College of Veterinary Medicine. Her role as Section Chief of Clinical Pathology enables her to shape the education of future veterinarians while also fostering the growth of surgical referral cases at the TUCVM Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital.
Dr. Etzioni is the 2024 President of the National Association for Black Veterinarians. She is the Vice President and Director of Clinical Pathology for Transcendent Pathology, and Managing Director of Clinical Pathology and Chief Medical Officer for The Center for Integrative Veterinary Medicine, Inc., both Virginia-based companies.
Dr. Etzioni’s dedication to veterinary education and practice has not gone unnoticed. In 2024, she received multiple accolades, including the prestigious Educator Award from the American Society for Veterinary Clinical Pathology and recognition as a Top Veterinarian in Alabama by Top Professionals. Her outstanding work has also earned her a feature in the Inner Circle, Who’s Who of Excellence, and inclusion in Who’s Who in Healthcare.
A member of several professional organizations, including the American Veterinary Medical Association, the American College of Veterinary Pathologists, the American Society for Veterinary Clinical Pathology, the Alabama Veterinary Medical Association, the Tuskegee Veterinary Medical Association, The Tuskegee Veterinary Medical Alumni Association, and Sigma Xi, the Scientific Research Honor Society, Omega Tau Sigma, a Veterinary Fraternity. Dr. Etzioni is committed to advancing veterinary medicine. She attributes her success to perseverance and unwavering family support, and she currently serves as Vice Chair of the Katrina National Memorial Foundation.
