Dr. Rebecca Windsor: A Pioneering Veterinary Neurologist and Researcher
Innovative Specialist Focuses on Neuroinflammatory Diseases in Companion Animals
Wheat Ridge, CO – Dr. Rebecca Windsor, a highly respected veterinary neurologist, has made significant strides in the field of veterinary medicine since her graduation from the University of Southern California in 2001. With a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of California, Davis, and board certification in neurology and neurosurgery, Dr. Windsor has dedicated her career to improving the lives of pets and their owners through advanced medical care and research.
Dr. Windsor’s journey post veterinary school began with a yearlong internship in small animal medicine and surgery at North Carolina State University, followed by a rigorous three-year residency in neurology and neurosurgery at UC Davis, where she honed her skills in complex neurosurgical procedures. Her specialized interests include brain and spinal cord tumor removal and the repair of skull and spinal fractures. Since joining Wheat Ridge Animal Hospital in May 2017, she has become a trusted resource for pet owners facing neurological challenges with their beloved companions.
In 2020, Dr. Windsor expanded her impact on the veterinary community by joining Ethos Discovery, 501(c)3 nonprofit scientific research organization dedicated to advancing veterinary and human medical science. Her current research focuses on immune-mediated neuroinflammatory diseases, particularly an effort to find a cure for necrotizing meningoencephalitis, a devastating condition affecting Pug dogs. Additionally, she is investigating prevention strategies for intervertebral disc-associated hemorrhage in French bulldogs, aiming to enhance the quality of life for these popular breeds.
When asked about the key to her success, Dr. Windsor cites hard work, dedication, a passion for helping humans and pets, and very supportive work and home environments. “In addition to treating animals with neurological diseases and counseling owners through stressful times, I am strongly committed to research that will allow us to bring novel diagnostics and therapeutics to pets so we can advance veterinary medicine forward,” she states.
Outside of her professional commitments, Dr. Windsor enjoys a variety of hobbies that keep her balanced and energized. Whether it’s running, cycling, skiing, or practicing yoga, she finds joy in physical activity and the great outdoors. She also loves traveling to foreign countries and spending quality time with her loved ones, cherishing experiences that enrich her life.
