With a dedicated focus on both pediatric and adult sleep and snoring disorders, as well as complex sinus issues, Dr. Lazar has become a beacon of hope for countless patients and their families. His private practice, with locations in Memphis and Bartlett, has been providing comprehensive care since 1970, establishing a reputation for quality attention and advanced medical and surgical techniques.
Dr. Lazar’s educational journey began with a Bachelor of Arts from Brooklyn College in 1973, followed by a Medical Degree from the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara School of Medicine in 1978. He completed his residency at prestigious institutions including North Shore University Hospital and the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, where he served as Chief Resident in Otolaryngology and Communicative Disorders. His impressive training continued with fellowships in pediatric otolaryngology at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology and LeBonheur Children’s Hospital.
As the only fellowship-trained pediatric otolaryngologist in the Mid-South upon his arrival in Memphis, Dr. Lazar has pioneered numerous procedures that have significantly improved patient outcomes. At LeBonheur Children’s Hospital, he introduced advanced techniques such as upper airway reconstruction, including cricoid splits and laryngotracheal reconstructions. Utilizing state-of-the-art technologies like CO2 lasers, he has transformed the landscape of pediatric ENT surgery in the region. Notably, he and his team were the first in the nation to publish findings on endonasal sinus surgery in a peer-reviewed journal, setting standards that continue to be followed today.
Currently, Dr. Lazar serves as the Director of the Pediatric Otolaryngology Fellowship Training Program at ENT Memphis and LeBonheur Children’s Hospital. His role extends beyond clinical practice; he has been the Chairman of the Medical Executive Committee/Chief of Staff at LeBonheur Children’s Hospital-East Surgery Center for over 15 years and has contributed to the Medical Executive Committee for two decades. In addition to his clinical achievements, Dr. Lazar is deeply committed to philanthropy and the education of future physicians. He has established scholarships at Brooklyn College and Mississippi State University, as well as the Rande H. Lazar Health Services Research Grant through the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery Foundation, which awards $10,000 annually. His commitment to fostering the next generation of medical professionals is further exemplified by the Lazar Family Lectureship in Otolaryngology at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, all designed to create enduring educational opportunities.
Dr. Lazar’s work has not gone unnoticed; he has been honored to serve on various community boards, including the Memphis College of Art and the Memphis Development Foundation/The Orpheum Theatre. His insights and innovative approaches have contributed greatly to the medical community, reinforcing his status as an authority in his field.
Reflecting on his philanthropic philosophy, Dr. Lazar states, “To me, philanthropy and giving is not doing something special; it is our obligation as human beings. I firmly believe something special is creating and laying a perpetual foundation to educate young people and to offer them the opportunity to learn and mature. As parents and adults, it should be our mission to guarantee our young people their future education, to guarantee open communication, and to intellectually stimulate our children and members of our profession.”
Dr. Lazar’s dedication to improving the lives of others through both medical innovation and community service exemplifies the compassionate spirit of Memphis. His work not only uplifts those he treats but also inspires a new generation of healthcare professionals eager to follow in his footsteps.
