Dr. Andrew Sloan, a nationally and internationally renowned neurosurgeon, and physician-scientist, continues to lead the way in the field of neurosurgery and immunotherapy for brain tumors. He is currently the Chair of the Neuroscience Clinical Guidance Council at Piedmont Health and the Neuroscience Chair of the Piedmont Research Institute. His involvement in education is significant; he has led advanced neurosurgical training courses for practicing neurosurgeons and trainees at major national organizations including the American Association of Neurological Surgery (AANS) and the Congress of Neurosurgery (CNS).

Dr. Sloan’s passion for medicine began at an early age, culminating in a Bachelor of Science degree from Yale University and an MD from Harvard Medical School. His extensive training included an internship in general surgery and a residency in neurosurgery, as well as a fellowship at the prestigious MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. Most recently, in 2020, he earned an MBA with a healthcare specialization from Baldwin Wallace University.

In addition to his clinical and academic achievements, Dr. Sloan is an active member of various professional organizations, including the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and the Society of Neuro-Oncology. His leadership extends to the FDA Committee for Drugs and Devices, where he has played a role in shaping policies that impact patient care.

Dr. Sloan’s contributions to the field are further amplified by his editorial work; he serves as an Associate Editor for Operative Neurosurgery and is involved with several other major neurosurgical and scientific journals. With over 240 peer-reviewed publications, six US patents, and more than 650 invited presentations, Dr. Sloan’s work has garnered both national and international recognition.

Recognized for his excellence, Dr. Sloan has been named one of the “Best Doctors in America” since 2003, a Castle-Connolly Top Doctor since 2004, and cited as one of the “Top Surgeons in America” since 2007.
