Alma Rood, RN, MSN: A Dedicated Leader in Geriatric and Hospice Care

Serving as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Division of Nursing at Binghamton University Decker College of Nursing and Health Sciences 

Binghamton, New York – Alma Rood, RN, MSN, a highly respected Registered Nurse specializing in geriatrics, end-of-life care, palliative, and hospice care, continues to make significant contributions to the healthcare community. With a dual role as both an admission and visit nurse for a local hospice organization and a nursing supervisor at a long-term care facility, Alma is committed to providing compassionate care to patients and their families during some of life’s most challenging moments.

Since joining the undergraduate nursing program at Binghamton University Decker College of Nursing and Health Sciences in 2015, Alma has furthered her commitment to nursing education. She transitioned from an adjunct faculty member to a full-time instructor, lecturer, and course coordinator in 2017, where she shares her extensive knowledge and experiences with aspiring nurses. Her dedication to teaching is evident in her desire to cultivate the next generation of healthcare professionals.

Alma’s educational journey showcases her lifelong dedication to nursing. She began her studies at Manuela Toro Morice General in 1985, laying the groundwork for a fulfilling career in healthcare. After earning her Associate of Applied Science in Nursing from SUNY Broome Community College in 2000, she went on to achieve a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Magna Cum Laude, from Notre Dame of Maryland University in 2010. Alma then completed her Master of Science in Nursing Education in 2012, solidifying her role as a leader in nursing education.

Her extensive professional affiliations, including the American Nurses Association, the Homeopathic Nurses Association, the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association, the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization, the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses, the Eastern Nursing Research Society, and the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, reflect her commitment to advancing the nursing profession and enhancing patient care. 

Alma credits her success to her unwavering passion for caring for others, particularly the geriatric population. “Having a giving heart is essential in healthcare,” says Alma, emphasizing that serving others is a true honor. Her greatest accomplishment lies in her ability to positively impact the lives of her patients and their families, providing care infused with compassion and dedication.
