Grand Dental is thrilled to announce the addition of Dr. Raya Abu-Zahra to its esteemed team. Dr. Abu-Zahra, a Board-Certified Pediatric Dentist and Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to providing quality dental care in a positive and nurturing environment for children.
Before embarking on her professional journey, she earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor in 2010, followed by a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry in 2014. Completing her residency in Pediatric Dentistry at the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin in 2016, Dr. Raya has spent years honing her skills and knowledge in pediatric dental care.
For the past few years, Dr. Raya has been practicing in Springfield, Illinois, and New York City, where she also pursued an Executive Master’s Degree in Public Health and a Postdoctoral Oral Health fellowship at Columbia University, completing her studies in 2020. This unique combination of clinical expertise and health policy understanding positions her to make meaningful contributions to Grand Dental’s community.
“I am dedicated to providing the highest quality dentistry to each child in a positive and nurturing environment,” said Dr. Raya. Her commitment to her craft has been evident throughout her career, where she has actively engaged in leadership roles, such as serving as chapter president of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and chairing Give Kids a Smile. Additionally, her hands-on experience includes multiple pediatric-focused dental mission trips to Guatemala and volunteering to treat underserved populations.
During her residency, she received extensive training in behavior management, sedation dentistry, and the treatment of patients with special needs. Her passion for research has led her to publish several oral health-related articles, including in the Journal of Dental Education, showcasing her dedication to advancing the field of pediatric dentistry.
Having recently relocated to the West Suburbs of Chicago with her husband and children, Dr. Raya is excited to join the Grand Dental team in Aurora, Channahon, and Franklin Park, Illinois. With her extensive training, compassionate approach, and commitment to excellence, she is poised to make a significant impact at Grand Dental, ensuring that every child receives the care they deserve.
