Florida – Fran Fanning, MSN, BSN, RN, OCN, an esteemed Oncology Certified Nurse and Associate Director, Oncology Nurse Educator Manager at AbbVie, continues to make significant contributions to the field of oncology nursing. Beginning her nursing journey at Palm Beach Community College, Fran earned her Associate of Science in Nursing in 1993. Her commitment to lifelong learning led her to complete her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Chamberlain University in 2017. Recognizing the need for advanced knowledge in her field, Fran further pursued her education, obtaining her Master of Science in Nursing from Chamberlain University in 2022. This dedication to professional growth enables her to provide the highest quality of care to her patients.

Initially envisioning a career as an operating room nurse, Fran’s path took a transformative turn when she started her first job on a hospital oncology floor. Over the past 35 years, she has cultivated a rewarding career in oncology nursing, working in outpatient infusion centers and hospitals across the nation. Though she explored other specialties along the way, Fran always found herself drawn back to oncology—it’s become an integral part of who she is.

While recognizing the emotional challenges of oncology nursing, especially when patients succumb to cancer, Fran finds profound purpose and fulfillment in her work. She values the constant evolution within the field, from innovative treatments to new ways of managing side effects, and embraces the opportunity to keep learning and growing alongside her patients.

In addition to her professional achievements, Fran is actively involved in the oncology nursing community. She serves on the Board of the Pinellas County Oncology Nursing Society, having held the positions of President from 2014 to 2016 and Director At Large from 2016 to 2018. She is also a member of the Oncology Nursing Society and the Society of Gynecologic Oncology. Among her many accolades are the Matrix Partner Award for Solid Teamwork, ONE of the Year, and multiple Global Recognition Awards.
