Dr. Kiernan embarked on her nursing journey at the University of Alberta, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1996. Her commitment to excellence propelled her to pursue a Master’s Degree as a Nurse Practitioner from the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, culminating in her graduation in 2007. In 2017, she further refined her expertise by obtaining a Master’s in Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner from Colorado State University Pueblo. Her relentless pursuit of knowledge culminated in a Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing Science from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Medicine in 2021, establishing her as a thought leader in her field.
At UCHealth Highlands Ranch Hospital, Dr. Kiernan serves as the Lead of the Teleneurology Program, where her expertise in acute neurology, hospital neurology, and telehealth-based care significantly enhances patient outcomes. Dr. Kiernan’s previous roles as an Assistant Professor of Neurology at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and her experience in various clinical leadership positions exemplify her commitment to advancing neurological care.
Dr. Kiernan is actively involved in several professional organizations, including the American Nurses Association, the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses, the American Association of Neuroscience Nurses, and the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. She co-founded the Association of NeuroVascular Clinicians (ANVC), a pivotal organization dedicated to enhancing education and certification for nursing professionals in the neurovascular field. Her leadership as Chair of the ANVC for three years has left an indelible mark on the education and certification processes for neurovascular nurses.
An accomplished researcher and author, Dr. Kiernan has published numerous articles and developed neuroscience nursing education programs on local, national, and international platforms. Her role as a sought-after preceptor for nursing students highlights her commitment to nurturing the next generation of nurses and sharing her expertise through guest speaking engagements.
