Martine Edwards Appointed Vice President of Nursing Operations & Quality at St. Barnabas Hospital

Advancing Patient-Centered Care in the Heart of the Bronx

Martine Edwards, DNP, serves as the Vice President of Nursing Operations & Quality at St. Barnabas Hospital. With more than a decade of progressive nursing leadership experience, Edwards joins the Bronx-based hospital at a pivotal time — bringing her passion, vision, and expertise to elevate care delivery in one of New York City’s most underserved and resilient communities.

In her new executive role, Edwards will lead the hospital’s nursing operations, with a focus on improving care quality, safety, and patient satisfaction. Her leadership philosophy is grounded in empowerment, transparency, and collaboration. “Being a leader in an underserved community is both transformative and inspiring,” Edwards said. “My goal is to support and develop nurses so they can continue to provide compassionate, effective care — especially in communities that need it most.”

Edwards’ educational accomplishments provide a strong foundation for her clinical expertise and leadership in healthcare operations. She began her nursing journey by earning an Associate of Arts and Sciences (AAS) degree from Dutchess Community College in 2005, followed by a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from SUNY New Paltz in 2011. Building on her commitment to professional growth, she completed a Master of Science in Nursing Education at Walden University in 2017 and is currently pursuing her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) in Leadership and Management at Capella University, with anticipated graduation in 2027.

Before joining St. Barnabas Hospital, Edwards served in several key leadership roles, including Director of Nursing at MidHudson Regional Hospital within the Westchester Medical Health Network. Throughout her career, she has been instrumental in driving initiatives focused on staffing optimization, quality improvement, clinical education, and interdisciplinary teamwork. At St. Barnabas, she is tasked with advancing these efforts while cultivating a supportive and accountable nursing culture.

“I want to build a workplace where nurses feel seen, heard, and empowered — because when our staff thrives, our patients do too,” Edwards said. Her appointment is a powerful affirmation of St. Barnabas Hospital’s commitment to excellence in care, equity in access, and innovation in leadership. Under her guidance, the nursing department is poised to further enhance health outcomes for the Bronx community.
