Get to know Cardiovascular Disease Specialist Dr. J. Christian Higgins, who serves the population of Southeast Georgia.
Dr. Higgins completed his medical degree at The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, Camden, NJ.
After obtaining his Medical Degree, Dr. Higgins completed a residency in Internal Medicine from the University of Vermont College of Medicine. He then went on to further his education by completing a Fellowship in Cardiovascular Disease and Interventional Cardiology from the University of Vermont. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in both Cardiovascular Diseases and Interventional Cardiology.
Dr. Higgins currently practices Interventional Cardiology with Meadows Health where he serves as Medical Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory.
Interventional Cardiology represents advanced training in cardiovascular disease and focuses on the invasive (usually catheter-based) management of heart disease. The most important health threats usually managed by interventional cardiologists include: acute myocardial infarction or heart attacks which can be effectively treated with stent placement, Valve disease (valvuloplasty, percutaneous valve repair or replacement), and Acute Pulmonary Embolism or blood clots in the lungs.
