Dr. Gene R. Howard is a very experienced ophthalmologist, having been in practice for nearly three decades. His acclaimed career in eyecare began in 1984 when he graduated from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland. After working as an instructor at the Wilmer Eye Institute for 2 years, Dr. Howard completed his Ophthalmology residency at the University of Illinois at Chicago, followed by his Oculoplastic Surgery and Orbital Oncology fellowship at the University of Iowa. He also holds a Master of Public Health Degree.
Dr. Howard is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, and he diagnoses and treats a wide range of eye related conditions in patients of all ages. He is particularly known, however, for his expertise in oculoplastic surgery, eye socket surgery and facial reconstructive procedures. He also provides cosmetic surgical services including eyelid lifts.
Dr. Howard is a former Professor of Ophthalmology at the Medical University of South Carolina where he held the prestigious Feldberg Chair. He has been in private practice in Charleston South Carolina since 2010 where his practice serves patients throughout the state. He continues to teach his specialty internationally through Orbis International. His expertise and dedication makes Dr. Gene R. Howard a very worthy winner of a 2018 Top Doctor Award.
