He then completed his internship with the Grady Health System, followed by a residency with the University of California, San Francisco, the University of Texas Southwestern – Parkland Health & Hospital System, and the Medical College of Wisconsin Affiliated Hospitals.
Dr. Willerson is dual certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Ophthalmology. To stay up to date in his field he remains a professional member of the American College of Surgeons and a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. While he is currently retired, he is affiliated with Baptist Medical Center.
