Dr. Appelle is a general dentist with over 49 years of experience. He is currently the Director of Dental Services and Chief Clinician at Coordinated Dental Specialties in New York City, New York. After college, Dr. Appelle attended Tufts, the most prestigious dental school in the country, earning his Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry degree. This was followed by two years in the U.S. Army as a dentist, with the rank of Captain. He was on active duty for one year in California and one year in Vietnam during the war, earning an Army Commendation Medal and Bronze Star in the process. He also put four more years in the reserves, while beginning his private practice in New York City.
Professionally, Dr. Appelle has spent countless hours taking continuing education courses, both didactic and hands-on, as well as developing a knowledge base and level of expertise that can only come with experience. In 1980, he received an award from his dental society acknowledging his having taken over 100 hours of continuing education courses – more than any other dentist in New York for that year.
Dentistry, also known as Dental and Oral Medicine, is a branch of medicine that consists of the study, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of diseases, disorders, and conditions of the oral cavity. As a general dentist, Dr. Appelle has the skills needed to complete an array of commonly performed dental procedures that are simple or complex in nature. Dr. Appelle is married and has a daughter in college. He spends his weekends May – September at his summer residence in East Hampton. In his spare time, he enjoys playing tennis, practicing martial arts, stamp collecting, and spending time with his wife and daughter.
