Theresa is a registered nurse who is currently serving patients in the State of Wisconsin. She specializes in several areas in her field, including medical-surgical nursing, critical care nursing, long-term care, and inpatient rehabilitation. Medical-surgical nursing is a nursing specialty area concerned with the care of adult patients in a broad range of settings. Critical care nursing is the field of nursing with a focus on the utmost care of the critically ill or unstable patients following extensive injury, surgery or life threatening diseases. Long-term care is a variety of services which help meet both the medical and non-medical needs of people with a chronic illness or disability who cannot care for themselves for long periods. Inpatient rehabilitation generally refers to physician and therapy services that a patient receives during a stay in a hospital. Theresa earned her nursing degree from Madison Area Technical College in 1982 and 1989, respectively. She then went on to earn her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Columbia College of Nursing in 2000, followed by her Master of Science in Nursing degree from the University of Phoenix in 2005. When deciding what career path to take, Theresa was always torn between nursing and teaching. When her grandmother got sick, she helped to take care of her and saw what the nursing field was really about. That is when she realized that nursing was for her.
Although she doesn’t like to admit it, Theresa’s stubbornness not only makes her a great patient advocate, but it also allows her the ability to stand up for her coworkers. She attributes her success to the skillset she has obtained over the last 35 years as a nurse, along with her empathy and communication skills. Theresa is a member of the Association of Rehabilitation Nurses, the Wisconsin Nurses Association, and the American Nurses Association.
A registered nurse (RN) is a nurse who has graduated from a nursing program and met the requirements outlined by a country, state, province or similar licensing body to obtain a nursing license. RNs fulfill a variety of job duties. In addition to their primary role of treating and caring for patients, their responsibilities also include educating patients and the public about a variety of medical conditions, as well as providing emotional support and advice to the families of their patients. Other RN job functions include performing diagnostic tests and analyzing results, operating medical equipment, administering medications, recording patients’ symptoms and medical histories, as well as assisting with patient rehabilitation and follow-up.
