With extensive knowledge in all areas of podiatric surgery and medicine, Dr. Garrett is most notably known for his advanced skills in the areas of reconstructive foot and ankle surgery, diabetic foot management, foot and ankle arthritis, trauma and fracture care, pediatric foot and ankle disorders, sports medicine, wound healing, and general podiatric care. At present, he provides his services as a board-certified foot and ankle surgeon and certified wound specialist at Landmark Foot and Ankle Center, where he works alongside Dr. Dong M. Kim.
Landmark Foot and Ankle Center is a full-service foot and ankle wellness center located in Alexandria, Virginia. Both Dr. Garrett and Dr. Kim practice comprehensive medical and surgical foot and ankle care. They specialize in corrective surgery, sports injury, fracture care, joint pain and arthritis, complex lower extremity wounds, dermatology of the lower extremities, and all other foot care problems.
As an educator, Dr. Garrett serves as a teaching physician in INOVA Fairfax Hospital’s Podiatric Residency Program of Northern Virginia, where he mentors the next generation of foot and ankle care specialists. He also serves as the chief of podiatric surgery at Inova Mount Vernon Hospital, management board at Harbor Heights Surgery Center, as well as active staff at Inova Alexandria Hospital.
In regards to his educational background, he graduated from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio with his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1991. He then graduated Magna Cum Laude from Chicago’s William Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine with his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree. Recognized for his dedication and potential in the field of podiatric medicine and surgery, Dr. Garrett was awarded several scholarships, including the Philip Brachman and the Durlacher Honors Scholarships.
In 1995, he was accepted into the Illinois Masonic Medical Center residency program for a 36-month period for his surgical and medical training. Located in inner-city Chicago as a level 1 trauma center, Dr. Garrett trained along-side general surgery, family practice, emergency room, and internal medicine residents, serving as Chief Resident in his third year. He received extensive training in trauma, limb salvage, orthopedics, and podiatric surgery. During his internship, he completed certification programs for Advanced Lower Extremity Wound Care and studied on the insensate foot, internal fixation specific to ankle and foot surgery, as well as ankle and foot arthroscopy.
A Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons, the doctor is board-certified in foot surgery by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery, whose mission is to protect and improve the health and welfare of the public by the advancement of the art and science of podiatric surgery.
Among his professional affiliations, he is a member of the Virginia Podiatric Medical Association and the American Podiatric Association, American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. He is also a Diplomate of the American College of Wound Management.

He is published in several peer-reviewed medical journals for his research on the surgical correction of hallux limitus, skin grafting in complex wound care patients, and new technology for hammertoe correction. He attributes his success to his bedside manner, as well as his ability to provide quality care, listen to his patients’ needs, and produce reproducible results.
In his personal life, Dr. Garrett has resided in Alexandria since 1998 with his wife and two children. In addition to spending time with his family, he is an avid health, fitness, and sports fan. He enjoys playing golf, skiing, attending college football games, and scuba diving. His favorite place to vacation is in the Caribbean or Utah mountains.
