Growing up in Western Montana, it was there that Dr. Andreason came to appreciate wide, open spaces and hard-working people. After two years of volunteer service in South America, he graduated cum laude with a degree in Spanish Language and Literature and a minor in Physics from Brigham Young University, where his coursework included studies with renowned poet, Gonzalo Rojas.
From there, he went on to earn his medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland in 1998. He completed his residency in ophthalmology in San Antonio, Texas, in 2004, while serving in the United States Air Force. Subsequently, he completed his fellowship training in cornea, external disease, and refractive surgery at UC San Diego.
His years in the Service included care of active duty servicemen and women, their families, and retirees, joint assignments with the Army and Navy, years at the trauma hospital in Landstuhl Germany, caring for many injured soldiers transported there directly from the Middle East, deployments to East Asia and Iraq, and many humanitarian missions from Latin America to Eastern Europe.
For his hard work and dedication, Dr. Andreason has earned board certification in ophthalmology by the American Board of Ophthalmology, an independent, non-profit organization responsible for certifying ophthalmologists in the United States of America.
Ophthalmology is a branch of medicine and surgery, which deals with the diagnosis and treatment of eye disorders. Ophthalmologists are experts in the diseases, functions, and anatomy of the eye. They may provide routine care such as vision testing, as well as prescribe and fit eyeglasses or contact lenses. However, ophthalmologists are also surgeons. They repair traumatic injuries to the eye and perform cataract, glaucoma, and corneal surgery.
