Kerstin Rosen, MD, FAAP, a Pediatrician with Kaiser Permanente Santa Clara Medical Center
Get to know Pediatrician Dr. Kerstin Rosen, who serves patients in Santa Clara, California.
Dr. Rosen, a board-certified pediatrician, practices at Kaiser Permanente Santa Clara Medical Center in Santa Clara, California. “My approach to pediatric medicine is through health education and illness prevention. I will be your partner in caring for your child and will try to empower you to be the best caregiver you can be.” as stated by the doctor.
She joined Kaiser Permanente in Santa Clara in 2007 from a community practice on the Peninsula where she worked for nine years. Her special interest has been childhood obesity, which is a growing concern all over the United States and the world.
Born and raised in Sweden, Dr. Rosen attended medical school at Lund University, where she graduated with her medical degree in 1993. During her studies, she spent a year abroad doing radiology/MRI at the University of California, San Francisco, which is how she came to move to the United States. She completed her internship at Kaiser Permanente in San Francisco and her residency in pediatrics at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. In addition, she spent a year doing research in pediatric infectious disease at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford.
Considering herself to be a lifelong student, Dr. Rosen has taken on the leadership for continuing medical education for pediatric providers in the South Bay and stays involved in physician education on a regional level within Kaiser Northern California.
A Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the doctor is board-certified in pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP), which is one of the 24 certifying boards of the American Board of Medical Specialties. Founded in 1933, the ABP is an independent, nonprofit organization whose certificate is recognized throughout the world as a credential signifying a high level of physician competence. Certification by the ABP has one objective, to promote excellence in medical care for children and adolescents.
As a mother of three children, Dr. Rosen certainly understands that there is no “one size fits all” approach when it comes to child-rearing or even treatment of an illness. She is trained in traditional Western evidence-based medicine but has enjoyed learning more about how complementary alternative medical services such as acupuncture, massage, music therapy, and more can help a healing process or even prevent illness from occurring. The Bay Area is, after all, where East meets West in many areas.
Pediatrics is the branch of medicine that involves the medical care of infants, children, and adolescents. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends people be under pediatric care up to the age of 21. As a pediatrician, Dr. Rosen provides medical care to people ranging in age from newborns to young adults. She is trained to examine, diagnose, and treat children with a wide variety of injuries and illnesses through all of their developmental stages, as they grow and mature.
On a more personal note, Dr. Rosen loves to travel and meet new people around the world, attend performing arts activities, boogie board with her kids, do pilates on a weekly basis, as well as cook and really enjoy good meals with family and friends as often as she can. She travels to Sweden every summer to catch up with family and to allow her kids to experience their heritage.
