Dr. Freeman, the oldest son of Dr. Jerre Freeman, specializes in cataract surgery, glaucoma surgery, corneal transplants, and laser vision surgery. He practices at Memphis Eye & Cataract Associates in Tennessee.

Growing up around eye care, he felt a natural pull toward the field. He earned his medical degree from the University of Tennessee College of Medicine and served his residency in ophthalmology at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center Shreveport. He then completed a corneal fellowship under Richard Keates at the Beckman Laser Institute while attending the University of California, Irvine.
During his Fellowship at Beckman, Dr. Freeman served as a Clinical Investigator for FDA clinical trials of the Chiron Technolas Laser and participated in advanced research of the latest laser refractive surgical techniques.
Following his training, he became board-certified in ophthalmology by the American Board of Ophthalmology, whose mission is to serve the public by improving the quality of ophthalmic practice through a process of certification and Maintenance of Certification that fosters excellence and encourages continual learning.
Ophthalmology is a branch of medicine and surgery, which deals with the diagnosis and treatment of eye disorders. Ophthalmologists are experts in the diseases, functions, and anatomy of the eye. They may provide routine care such as vision testing, as well as prescribe and fit eyeglasses or contact lenses. However, ophthalmologists are also surgeons. They repair traumatic injuries to the eye and perform cataract, glaucoma, and corneal surgery.
Among his various accomplishments, Dr. Freeman has authored several articles for medical journals, as well as, the chapter on retrobulbar anesthesia for Ophthalmology Clinics in North America. He has received the Outstanding Staff Award twice – once while in Irvine, California, and secondly since living in Memphis, Tennessee. A member of the Memphis Eye Society, he is also on the board of the National Board of Eye Surgery and certified in LASIK by the American Board of Eye Surgery.
