Dr. Luo graduated with her Medical Degree from the Guangzhou Medical College in China in 1987, giving her over two decades of experience in her field. After obtaining her medical degree she relocated to the United States and completed her Anatomic and Clinical Pathology Residency from the University of Tennessee. Wanting to further her training she completed her Pediatric Pathology fellowship with the Washington University followed by the Gastroenterology Pathology fellowship with the Mount Sinai School of Medicine.
Dr. Luo is certified in Anatomic and clinical Pathology with the American Board of Pathology. Dr. Luo has practiced as a Pathologist with New York-Presbyterian Queens Hospital for more than ten years.
Pathology is a branch of medical science that involves the study and diagnosis of disease through the examination of surgically removed organs, biopsy specimens, bodily fluids, and others. Aspects of a bodily specimen that may be considered include its gross anatomical features, histological arrangements and immunohistochemical markers. Pathology also includes the related scientific study of disease processes whereby the causes, mechanisms and extent of disease are examined. Pathologists specialize in a wide range of diseases including cancer and the vast majority of cancer diagnoses are made by pathologists. The morphological pattern of tissue samples are observed under a microscope to help determine if a sample is benign or malignant. The most challenge cases are those between benign and malignant. Pathologists employ tumor genetic studies in the assessment of various diseases and provided options of treatment as well.
