Dr. Kovalchuk is a practicing nephrologist who has been with Ocala Kidney Group in Florida since 2009. He also serves as the Medical Director for the DaVita Acute Dialysis Program.
Ocala Kidney Group has been serving Marion County since 1984. Established with the vision of providing world class care for many of the community’s most ill patients, the physicians in the group in those early years provided not only nephrology (kidney) care, but were some of the first to offer board certified critical care in the local hospitals. The practice now consists of ten physicians, all board-certified in nephrology, and many also certified in internal medicine or critical care medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine. They are supported by a team of nurse practitioners, registered nurses, and professional support staff all oriented to providing the best nephrology care possible.
In his native Ukraine, Dr. Kovalchuk gained automatic entry into medical school in recognition of his accomplishments as the most accomplished chemistry student in the entire country that year. This was typical of the honors awarded him in his subsequent academic career, which included a residency at the Yale-affiliated Danbury Hospital, and a fellowship in nephrology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore in the Bronx, New York City. He found time along the way to also earn a Master of Public Health degree in Epidemiology and International Health from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
With a commitment to preserving adult health, he is board-certified in both nephrology and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine, which is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world. In addition, he is affiliated with AdventHealth Ocala and Ocala Regional Medical Center.

It is the study of normal kidney function and kidney disease, the preservation of kidney health, and the treatment of kidney disease, from diet and medication to renal replacement therapy. Happily married, Dr. Kovalchuk and his wife have a son and a daughter. He is an avid and accomplished tennis player.
