As the region’s most experienced certified nurse-midwife, Elizabeth works at Tree of Life Family Birth Center in Jeffersonville, Indiana. She specializes in natural childbirth, deliveries, and fertility counseling. She also provides care for well women, annual exams, preconceptual counseling, contraceptive services, and prenatal care.
The mission of Tree of Life Family Birth Center is to offer women with low-risk pregnancies a safe, natural, more personalized birth experience, in keeping with applicable standards of midwifery practice, under the care of Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNMs). Care includes prenatal visits at WomanCare in Jeffersonville, conveniently located for women and families of Kentuckiana.
After she gave birth to her first child, Elizabeth became inspired to become a nurse-midwife. It was a bad experience and she knew that women deserved better. She met with a nurse-midwife before having her second child and knew immediately that it was the field she wanted to go into.
With compassion and dedication to changing the lives of women, she graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from the Indiana University Southeast School of Nursing. She then went on to earn her Master of Science in Nursing degree and her CNM designation from the University of Kentucky College of Nursing.
A 2019 recipient of the Preceptorship Award from the American College of Nurse-Midwives, Elizabeth is an active member of the said organization and the American Association of Birth Centers. She is also a presenter at area high schools on topics such as birth control, pregnancy, breastfeeding, and STD prevention.
In addition to helping patients at Tree of Life Family Birth Center, she is affiliated with Clark Memorial Health. She enjoys spending time with patients, listening to their concerns, and allowing them to have input into their birthing process.
Nurse midwifery is a nursing specialization dealing with pregnancy, labor, and postpartum concerns. As a CNM, Elizabeth works with mothers to ensure their safety during the childbirth process, as well as the safety of their newborn child.
In the United States, a CNM is a midwife who exceeds the International Confederation of Midwives essential competencies for a midwife and is also an advanced practice registered nurse, having completed registered nursing and midwifery education.
A native of Harrison County who served as an Army Nurse at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, Elizabeth has four children and four grandchildren.
