Born in Ghana, West Africa, Dr. Frimpong moved to the United States in 1996 at the age of 16 and attended high school and college in Massachusetts. He attended medical school at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Pennsylvania, achieving his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree in 2008. He completed his visiting residency in neurotrauma at Miami Valley Hospital in Ohio, his visiting residency in neuropathology at the University of Cincinnati in 2012, He completed his residency in general neurosurgery at Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine (ACGME accredited neurosurgery program) in Roanoke in 2016. He then completed a fellowship in minimally invasive and complex spine surgery at Bassett Healthcare —Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York.
The doctor’s continuing education courses included: Congress of Neurological Surgeons Annual Meeting (2012), Annual Clinical Assembly of Osteopathic Surgeons (2012), Annual Meeting of the AANS/CNS Section on Disorders of the Spine and Peripheral Nerves (2014), American Association of Neurological Surgeons Annual Meeting (2014), Annual Clinical Assembly of Osteopathic Surgeons (2014), Chicago Review Course in Neurosurgery (2016), North American Spine Society Annual Meeting (2016), Minimally Invasive Procedural Solutions Regional Training in Jersey City (2016), and Spine IEP Fellows and Young Surgeons’ Course (2016).
In 2017, Dr. Frimpong attained board certification in neurological surgery through the American Osteopathic Board of Surgery, an organization that provides board certification to qualified Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine who specialize in the use of surgery to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.
In good standing with a number of professional organizations, he is a member of the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons, the International Society for the Advancement of Spine Surgery, the North American Spine Society, the American Osteopathic Association, and the Medical Society of the State of New York.
Throughout his line of work, Dr. Frimpong has conducted several presentations and research. He also holds certifications in Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and Advanced Trauma Life Support & is licensed to practice medicine in Georgia, New Mexico, Kansas, Missouri, North Dakota, New York, and Virginia.
Neurosurgery is the medical specialty concerned with the prevention, diagnosis, surgical treatment, and rehabilitation of disorders which affect any portion of the nervous system including the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, and extra-cranial cerebrovascular system.
