Dr. Brandes graduated with his Medical Degree from the University of Munich in Germany in 1998, giving him over two decades of experience in his field. After obtaining his Medical Degree he completed his residency with the Humboldt University Berlin in Germany. He then relocated to the United States and completed his internal medicine residency with the John Hopkins Hospital. Wanting to further his training he then completed his Medical Oncology and Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care Medicine Fellowship with the John Hopkins Hospital.
To stay up to date in his field he remains a professional member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American College of Chest Physicians and has been inducted as a Fellow of the American College of St Thomas. Oncology is a branch of medicine that deals with the diagnosis, treatment or prevention of cancer. The specialist who practices oncology is known as an oncologist. If an oncologist has special training in performing surgery on cancerous tumors, he or she is called a surgical oncologist.
