A graduate of the Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science/Chicago Medical School, Dr. Rizzo went on to complete his internship and residency in orthopaedic surgery at New York University Medical Center. This was followed by a fellowship in sports medicine at Thomas Jefferson University/Rothman Orthopaedic Institute in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. During this specialized training, he served as an assistant team physician for several professional teams, including the Philadelphia Eagles, the Philadelphia Flyers, and the Philadelphia Phillies, as well as numerous college and high school teams.
Among the doctor’s many professional achievements, he has served as an Associate Master Instructor, at the Orthopaedic Learning Center OLC, in Chicago teaching other orthopaedic surgeons the most current techniques in arthroscopic shoulder and knee surgery. He has published articles on the topics of shoulder and knee instability, and is currently involved in research and development of new surgical techniques.
Furthermore, he is board-certified in orthopaedic surgery, with subspecialty certification in orthopaedic sports medicine, by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopaedic residents and surgeons in training, as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of practicing orthopaedic surgeons.
