David C. Stair, MD, FACP, an Internist with Yale New Haven Hospital
David C. Stair, MD, FACP, began his undergraduate education at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California, graduating with a B.A. in Anthropology. He pursued his medical education first, at the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara school of medicine in Mexico for three years, then transferring to Rush Medical College in Chicago for two years. He received his MD degree there in 1977.
He started his internship and residency initially in orthopedic surgery at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). After two years in general surgery and a year of orthopedic residency, he changed course and began an internship and residency in internal medicine at St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury, Connecticut, completed in 1983. In addition, he completed a one year fellowship at the Yale School of Medicine in clinical hypertension and in 1986 was certified as a Specialist in Clinical Hypertension by the American Society of Hypertension (ASH)
He started medical practice as an internist at the Community Health Care Plan (CHCP) in Hamden, Ct. and remained there from 1986-1994. An experienced internist, Dr. Stair was affiliated with Yale New Haven Hospital in New Haven, Connecticut.
Relying on the skill and expertise of more than 4,500 university and community physicians and advanced practitioners, including more than 600 resident physicians, Yale New Haven Hospital provides comprehensive, multidisciplinary, family-focused care in more than 100 medical specialty areas. As the primary teaching hospital for Yale School of Medicine, it has supervised physician residents and fellows supporting their medical staff by providing around-the-clock coverage and insightful, research-supported patient care.
In addition to providing quality medical care to patients and families, Yale New Haven Hospital is the second largest employer in the New Haven area with more than 12,000 employees. It is also the flagship member of Yale New Haven Health System.
Specializing in the medical treatment of adults, Dr. Stair is board-certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.
Internal medicine is the medical specialty dealing with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of adult diseases. Physicians specializing in internal medicine are called internists. They manage and prevent common and complex diseases by providing comprehensive care and promoting overall well-being.
In view of Dr. Stair’s earlier training in general surgery and orthopedics as indicated above, he also worked with a close physician associate as a full-time attending Emergency Department physician at the Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford, Delaware from 1997-2001.
He returned to Connecticut and joined the Connecticut Medical Group (CMG) in the practice of primary care, in their Cheshire office. He retired from that location in 2017.
Presently, Dr. Stair is enjoying retirement by spending more time with his family, playing tennis, scuba diving in Cozumel, Mexico, reading avidly and tutoring his thirteen year-old twin grandsons in mathematics and science.
