Dr. Gehris received his undergraduate education at Princeton University and his M.D. degree from The Johns Hopkins University. After two years of general surgery at Hopkins, Dr. Gehris spent two years in the United States Navy, serving as medical officer of the USS Thomas A. Edison, SSBN 610(G), a Polaris missile-firing submarine.
He then returned to Hopkins for specialized training in ear, nose, and throat surgery, receiving appointment as instructor in otolaryngology in 1975 and assistant professor in 1976. From 1977 to 2005, he served as head of the section of otolaryngology at the original Fallston General Hospital, and then at the Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, as well as section chief of otolaryngology at The Franklin Square Medical Center to the present. He has served on numerous committees at the hospitals and Baltimore County Medical Society.
Dr. Gehris is the author of papers and lectures regarding several different areas of ear, nose, and throat, particularly dealing with the surgical treatment of snoring and sleep apnea. His particular interests within the specialty include ear surgery for hearing reconstruction; children’s ear, nose, and throat problems; rhinoplasty; and surgery for snoring and sleep apnea.
Hospital privileges are at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center, GBMC, Franklin Square, St. Joseph, Union Memorial, and Johns Hopkins Hospital.
