Get to know Ophthalmologist Dr. Nikisha Kothari, who serves patients throughout the State of Texas.

An excellent ophthalmologist, Dr. Kothari is affiliated with Texas Retina Associates, serving patients at their Grapevine, Arlington, and Mansfield offices. She specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal tears and detachments, macular holes and numerous other retinal diseases.

Texas Retina Associates is Texas’ largest, most experienced ophthalmology practice focused specifically on the diagnosis and medical and surgical management of diseases of the retina and vitreous. All of the physicians are fellowship-trained, and some even sub-specialize further to care for the most complicated retina conditions like ocular cancer and uveitis. Most importantly, the team believes in caring for patients as they would for their own families. Their goal is always to achieve the best possible outcome through listening, educating, and delivering personalized care.

Prior to joining Texas Retina Associates, Dr. Kothari completed her fellowship training in vitreoretinal surgery at the Jules Stein Eye Institute at UCLA and residency in ophthalmology at top-rated Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. She earned her medical degree from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.

With her areas of focus being vitreoretinal surgery and medical retina, she is board-certified in ophthalmology by the American Board of Ophthalmology (ABO). The ABO is an independent, non-profit organization responsible for certifying ophthalmologists in the United States of America.

A member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Retina Specialists, Dr. Kothari has published numerous peer-reviewed articles in international journals and has also presented at international meetings.

As a testament of her groundbreaking work, Dr. Kothari has received plenty of awards and honors, including the Hope for Vision iWalk Visionary and Lili Medel Vision Award for her community service and National Institute of Health/ National Eye Institute Award for her research in pediatric retina. She has also traveled to Nepal with the Himalayan Cataract Project to understand the complexity of providing ophthalmic care in underserved communities. 

On a more personal note, she speaks English, Spanish, and Gujarati.
