Dr. Lee is a board-certified medical oncologist and internist who welcomes patients at Regional Cancer Care Associates in Mt. Holly, New Jersey, which he joined in 2004. He remains affiliated with Virtua Memorial Hospital and Hackensack Meridian Health. Prior to his current endeavors, he worked in the oncology program at the National Cancer Institute for 7 years and participated in basic and clinical research, prior to going into private practice.
Dr. Lee earned his medical degree from Cornell University Medical College in 1983. He then completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at Georgetown University Hospital (1983 – 1986). Dr. Lee spent his fellowship in medical oncology (1986 – 1989) and fellowship in infectious disease medicine (1989 – 1993) at the National Cancer Institute (NCI).
Following his training, Dr. Lee attained board certification in internal medicine, medical oncology through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The American Board of Internal Medicine is a 501 nonprofit, self-appointed physician-evaluation organization that certifies physicians practicing internal medicine and its subspecialties. The American Board of Internal Medicine is not a membership society, educational institution, or licensing body.
Hematology is the branch of medicine concerned with the study of the cause, prognosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases related to blood. It involves treating diseases that affect the production of blood and its components, such as blood cells, hemoglobin, blood proteins, bone marrow, platelets, blood vessels, spleen, and the mechanism of coagulation. Such diseases might include hemophilia, blood clots (thrombus), other bleeding disorders, and blood cancers such as leukemia, multiple myeloma, and lymphoma.
Oncology is the study of cancer. The field of oncology has three major areas: medical, surgical, and radiation. A medical oncologist treats cancer using chemotherapy or other medications, such as targeted therapy or immunotherapy. A surgical oncologist removes the tumor and nearby tissue during surgery. A radiation oncologist treats cancer using radiation therapy.
