A native of India, he graduated with his medical degree from Topiwala National Medical College in Mumbai in 1971. In 1996, Dr. Dass became the CEO of New Center Hospital, buying the hospital by pooling his own money with friends, family and colleagues. He was moved by the plight of the underprivileged and overlooked residents, and constantly sought new ways to reach the poor. His vision for New Center Hospital was to provide culturally sensitive care to the area’s African, Arab, Chaldean, and Asian patients. The hospital changed its name to Renaissance Hospital, and later to Detroit Hope Hospital, before finally closing in 2009.
