Dr. Savage is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon who specializes in providing surgical and nonsurgical care for the back, neck, and spine. He entered the practice of orthopedic and spine surgery in 1974 in Birmingham.
On July 1, 1987, he founded OrthoAlabama Spine & Sports. Over the past three decades, the practice has grown to include multiple orthopedic subspecialists as well as expanded to offer patient-centered care for physical medicine and rehabilitation and rheumatology.

Pertaining to his educational background, Dr. Savage received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Chemistry from Jacksonville State University. He then went on to earn his medical degree from The University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine, after which he performed a mixed surgery internship at St. Vincent’s Birmingham. Furthermore, he completed residencies in orthopedic surgery at Lloyd Noland Hospital, Martin Army Community Hospital, and The University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine.
With extensive knowledge and experience that make him an exceptional doctor, he is board-certified in orthopedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopedic residents and surgeons as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopedic surgeons.
Among Dr. Savage’s professional affiliations include the Alabama Orthopedic Society, the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the American Medical Association, the Chestley Yelton Society, the International Intradiscal Therapy Society, the International Society for Minimal Intervention in Spinal Surgery, the International Society of Surgery, the Jefferson County Medical Society, the Jefferson County Orthopedic Society, the Medical Association of the State of Alabama, the North American Spine Society, the Southern Medical Association, the Southern Orthopedic Association, and the Spine Intervention Society.
