Dr. Cheung grew up around traditional chinese medicine (TCM), and lots of friends with doctor fathers, who had really smart perspectives on western medicine. When he was a child, his mother was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, and received cutting edge treatment from Duke University Hospital. But still, he wondered how her care could be made better. He wondered about how to develop new health modalities, where instead of just controlling symptoms, they were treating their root causes. He dreamed of helping people with medicines that didn’t wreak havoc through severe side effects.
When entering college, Dr. Cheung considered a variety of options, including business, medicine, and pharmacy. At the time, there was a pharmacy shortage, and after talking to advisors and mentors, he realized that through pharmacy, he could pursue all of the interests that had percolated in him since he was a child. He attended the University of Florida College of Pharmacy, one of the top pharmaceutical schools in the nation. During school, he worked 2 rotations at Proctor and Gamble, learning from the best in the world.
Right out of school, Dr. Cheung worked at Walgreens, helping develop new pharmaceutical practices. In the end, the conventional corporate atmosphere led him to other specialized, independent pharmaceutical enterprises, to great results.
But what he had always wanted, ever since childhood, was to help develop a whole-health solution. He wanted to help people take control of every aspect of their health through the intelligent use of functional medicines, including pharmaceuticals and over-the-counter supplements.
Pharmaceutical medicine is a medical discipline concerned with the discovery, evaluation, registration, monitoring and clinical aspects of pharmaceutical development. Pharmaceutical physicians lead and advise on the development of new treatments, established pharmaceutical products, and areas of unmet medical need.
