Raquel is a registered nurse, a licensed aesthetician & a Certified Aesthetics Nurse Specialist (CANS) in dermatological/plastic surgery. She has a strong clinical knowledge of skin care, aesthetic injections, skin laser treatments, and surgical procedures.
After 13 years of clinical and surgical experience with Dr. Schenden’s practice where she was the only employee that was cross trained to work in all three of the companies – Revitalize Plastic Surgery, Schenden’s Medical Day Spa, and Columbia Surgical Center – Raquel decided to open her own practice.
Hence, in May of 2023, she founded R Skin, Aesthetics by Raquel, conveniently located in Birmingham, Michigan.
As a registered nurse, Raquel has the skills to perform comprehensive skin care analysis and will develop a clinical skin care management process to help achieve patients’ goals.
As an aesthetician / aesthetic nurse injector, she has obtained specialized training for a wide range of aging and skin conditions utilizing sophisticated clinical skills and skin therapy modalities. She is licensed to perform non-invasive facial aesthetic procedures.
Academically, Raquel graduated from Oakland Community College with a degree in registered nursing. She then received comprehensive training by Dr. Michael J. Schenden on the full line of aesthetic injections.
Totaling over 40,000 hours of clinical experience and hands-on treatment, Raquel has attended countless trainings led by industry leaders in the aesthetic field. This broad background allows her to not only analyze one’s need for aesthetic injections but also provide the best in skin care treatment/products as well.
Most recently, Raquel obtained her CANS certification where one must work with a board-certified physician, have 2 years or more experience, as well as possess 1,000 clinical hours in dermatology/plastic surgery.
Taking the time to listen to all of her patients, she develops a treatment plan that works for them and helps them meet their desired goals. Raquel has a thorough knowledge of the beauty industry and her goal is for her patients to benefit from her comprehensive background.
A Registered Nurse (RN) is a nurse who has graduated from a nursing program and met the requirements outlined by a country, state, province or similar licensing body to obtain a nursing license. RNs fulfill a variety of job duties. In addition to their primary role in treating and caring for patients, their responsibilities also include educating patients and the public about a variety of medical conditions, as well as providing emotional support and advice to the families of their patients. Other RN job functions include leadership, research, performing diagnostic tests and analyzing results, operating medical equipment, administering medications, recording patients’ symptoms and medical histories, and assisting with patient rehabilitation and follow-up.
A licensed aesthetician is a professional who has specialized in skin care, especially non-invasive cosmetic treatments. They can pursue certification as a Certified Aesthetic Nurse Specialist, or CANS; this is issued by the Plastic Surgical Nursing Certification Board.
Attributing her success to her experience working with a physician for years in plastic surgery and to her patients for believing in her and trusting her to put their face in her hands, Raquel has been the recipient of several awards and honors throughout her career. These include 2015 IFBB Pro Bikini, 2015 NPC Masters Pittsburgh, PA – 1 st place Masters Division, 2012 NPC Masters Rochester, MI -1 st Place Masters Division, 2012 NPC Nicole Wilkins – 1 st place Bikini Masters Division, and 1991 Model of the Year.
In her off time, Raquel has achieved professional bodybuilder status through the International Federation of BodyBuilding and Fitness (IFBB) and is a Certified Personal Trainer through the International Sports Sciences Association (ISSA). This rounds out her desire to encourage others to not only look their best on the outside but feel and be their healthiest on the inside.
