As a dentist, Dr. Sheenan is passionate about providing the highest quality care to her patients at Distinctive Dentistry in Dunellen, New Jersey.
Focusing on each person’s unique clinical and personal concerns, she treats the whole person, not just their teeth. She strives to form a personal bond with each patient and together, they work toward the common goal of optimal oral health and a beautiful smile.
Earning her Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry degree from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, Dr. Sheenan went on to complete her Certificate of Advanced General Dentistry at Boston University. While there, she taught during the evening clinic at Tufts.
A large part of her commitment to her patients and her profession is continuing dental education. Dr. Sheenan remains current on the newest techniques and technologies through seminars, lectures, and conferences. She has also completed many courses in oral cancer pathology and diagnosis, cosmetic and restorative dentistry, implant dentistry, and pediatric dental care.
Among her professional dental affiliations, she is an active member of the American Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, the New Jersey Dental Association, the Society for Color and Appearance in Dentistry, and the Tufts Alumni Association.
By learning from the top leaders in her profession and researchers in oral healthcare, Dr. Sheenan ensures her patients receive the best care. She has had the honor and distinction of receiving the Academy of Operative Dentistry Award.
Dentistry, also known as Dental and Oral Medicine, is a branch of medicine that consists of the study, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of diseases, disorders, and conditions of the oral cavity. Dentists diagnose and treat dental issues and help patients develop better oral hygiene regimens. They clean teeth, correct bite issues, perform surgeries, create beautiful smiles, and perform other duties to ensure that the teeth and mouth are healthy.
Except for her years of education, Dunellen is where Dr. Sheenan has been her entire life. In fact, her office is in the home where her grandparents once lived. The building was renovated in 1992 when she returned home from Boston to open her dental practice. Today, it serves as a lovely, bright, and welcoming space for her patients.
Very involved with her children and family as well as many community based organizations, Dr. Sheenan was a charter member of the Dunellen Education Foundation and gives annual seminars at the Cancer Wellness Center in Pluckemin. She has been involved in fundraising for the Summit Speech School, a wonderful school for profoundly deaf children, and is active in local schools throughout the year, but especially during Dental Health Month.
Considering New Jersey as a whole to be a wonderful place to live and raise a family, Dr. Sheenan and her husband met in dental school and married in 1995. They have two wonderful daughters. The family enjoys their Borzoi – a Russian WolfHound – and all love the beach. They also enjoy playing tennis and kayaking in the bay.
