Dr. Demasio received her medical degree from the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey. She then went on to complete her residency at Stanford University Medical Center, followed by her fellowship training at Yale University School of Medicine.
Obstetrics and gynaecology (commonly abbreviated as OB-GYN) is the medical specialty that encompasses the two subspecialties of obstetrics (covering pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period) and gynaecology (covering the health of the female reproductive system – vagina, uterus, and ovaries). As an obstetrician-gynecologist, Dr. Demasio provides medical care related to pregnancy or childbirth, as well as diagnoses, treats, and helps prevent diseases affecting women, particularly those related to the reproductive system. Her professional interests include the complications of premature rupture of membranes, preterm birth and cervical incompetence, which often result in extreme prematurity and neonatal death. “Using both clinical strategies and laboratory techniques, I hope to gain knowledge of the change in microbes, inflammatory cytokines and trigger of labor, which results in preterm delivery” stated Dr. Demasio.
