Get to know highly respected physician, Dr. Sang Sim, MD, specializing in advanced cancer treatment and associated with Monmouth Medical Center. 

Sang Sim, MD, is a board-certified radiation oncologist for Monmouth Medical Center, an RWJ Barnabas Health facility. With 22 years of experience, Dr. Sim provides a full-service radiation therapy program that treats a broad range of cancers, including highly complex cases. He uses the most advanced technologies to provide exceptional treatment and achieve improved cancer-control outcomes while minimizing toxicities.

Prior to joining Monmouth and East Coast Oncology Associates, he held the position of Chief of Radiation Oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering, Basking Ridge. His clinical interests include high and low rate brachytherapy for prostate cancer, intensity modulated radiation therapy for lung cancer treatment and stereotactic radiosurgery. 

Dr. Sim earned his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (UMDMJ), the former state health sciences institution of New Jersey. UMDMJ has since merged with Rutgers University to form Rutgers School of Biomedical and Health Sciences. Dr. Sim was selected to be a part of an elite group of juniors inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. He finished at the top of his class in medical school and received the first Stanley S. Bergen Award for academic achievement. 

Dr. Sim completed his residency in internal medicine and radiation therapy at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, in New York City where he served as Chief Resident and Acting Brachytherapy Fellow. Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center — the world’s oldest and largest private cancer center — has devoted more than 130 years to exceptional patient care, innovative research, and is consistently ranked as the leading cancer treatment facility in the country. 

Dr. Sim has served as a member of the National Patterns of Care Committee within the American College of Radiology (ACR). The Patterns of Care Study, supported by a grant from the National Cancer Institute and administered by the ACR, has conducted surveys of the structure, process and outcomes of care for patients treated with radiation therapy for more than 25 years and seeks to improve the quality of care received by cancer patients by conducting national surveys of radiation therapy delivery. He has served on the Nominating Committee of the American Brachytherapy Society. He serves as an advisor for Oncology Net journal and has served as a reviewer for Brachytherapy Journal, the official international medical journal for the American Brachytherapy Society.

His research has been published in multiple medical journals where he has authored studies in the use of implementation of radiosurgery, external beam radiation therapy, brachytherapy and dose comparisons of megavoltage cone-beam and orthogonal-pair portal images. In addition, Dr. Sim is fluent in English as well as Korean.
