Get to know Emergency Medicine Physician Dr. Joshua P. Bozek, who serves the population of Long Island, New York.

Dr. Bozek began his career as a Registered Nurse, Graduating from Cayuga Community College in 2000 with an A.A.S. in Nursing. While working full time as an ICU Registered Nurse, he went on to complete a BS in Biology at LeMoyne College in 2004.

Dr. Bozek than attended the Lake Erie College Of Osteopathic Medicine in Pennsylvania and graduated with his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Degree in 2008. After this, he went on to Emergency Medicine Residency at Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip NY, graduating in 2012.

Dr. Bozek currently practices Emergency Medicine with Alteon Health, and is affiliated with St Catherine Of Siena Medical center where he is the current Assistant Director of Emergency Services as well as the Director of QA/PI. Dr. Bozek also has affiliations with St Charles Hospital and St. John’s Episcopal Hospital. He is currently Board Certified in Emergency Medicine registered with the American Osteopathic Board of Emergency Medicine. He is current with his BLS, ACLS, ATLS, and PALS certifications.

Dr. Bozek teaches an Introduction to Emergency Medicine class to local Seniors in High school each year through St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center. He has given talks to the community about the opioid epidemic. Dr. Bozek attends multiple lectures throughout the year on stroke, as well as attending the American Osteopathic Board of Emergency Medicine yearly conference, where he is eligible for Fellowship. Dr. Bozek also gives lectures to local EMS volunteers on Emergency Medicine in the field.

Dr. Bozek is currently Credentialed to perform the following procedures: IV, Central line access, laceration repair, orthopedic reductions for both dislocation and fractures, splint care, I and D, moderate sedation, intubation, advance airway techniques, Mega Code, Chest tube placement, thoracotomy, foley catheter placement, arterial  line, and many more.

As first-line providers, emergency physicians manage patients of all ages with undifferentiated ailments of all types. They are primarily responsible for initiating resuscitation and stabilization and beginning investigations and interventions to diagnose and treat illnesses in the acute phase. Emergency physicians generally practice in hospital emergency departments, pre-hospital settings via emergency medical services, and intensive care units, but may also work in primary care settings such as urgent care clinics. Emergency physicians may subspecialize in disaster medicine, medical toxicology, ultrasonography, critical care medicine, hyperbaric medicine, sports medicine, palliative care, or aerospace medicine.
