Get to know Family Nurse Practitioner, Porothea Lynnette Dennis, who serves patients in Dayton, Ohio and surrounding areas.

Porothea is a humble, caring, and compassionate family nurse practitioner who is willing and able to learn new skills, able to blend with any population, and is a people person. Since she began her nursing career she has served as faculty for several higher institutes, mentored/precepted new nurses and Nurse Practitioners, volunteered in the community as an educator on various health topics, and uses her story to help others empower themselves to be their own advocates. She has worked many areas of Nursing such as acute care, critical care, mental heath, medical/surgical, rehablitation, surgical units (orthopedics, podiatry,  urology, thoracic, general), urgent care, and emergency care, and school nursing just to name a few.

She has a passion for teaching, she has instructed students in didactic on health assessment and coordinates clinical skills with didactic instruction in different settings such as rehabilitation and acute care.

Porothea received her LPN’s in 1994 from Miami Valley Career Technology Center. She graduated from Sinclair Community College with her ADN in 2001. She graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Indiana Wesleyan University (IWU) in 2003, Porothea went on to earn her Master of Science in Nursing degree from IWU in 2010 for nursing education and then in 2014 with her post masters degree for primary care Nurse Practitioner.

Among her professional affiliations, she is an active member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, and the Ohio Nurses Association.

In addition to holding a certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Porothea holds a CPR certificate.  She is the owner and operator of Dependable Care Traveling NP LLC.

A Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) provides continuing and comprehensive healthcare for the individual and family across all ages, genders, diseases, and body systems. FNPs maintain patient records, perform physical exams, order or perform diagnostic tests, prescribe medications, develop treatment plans, as well as treat acute and chronic illnesses, conditions, and injuries that fall under primary care.
