Leading Clinical Geneticist, Dr. Luigi Boccuto, MD, to be Announced in FindaTopDoc – FindaTopDoc
FindaTopDoc is proud to welcome Dr. Luigi Botto, MD, to their esteemed organization with his upcoming publication in FindaTopDoc. Dr. Luigi Boccuto currently serves as Chief Scientific Officer of Stalicla and Research Scientist at the JC Self Research Institute of the Greenwood Genetic Center, with over sixteen years of expertise and research interests in hereditary cancers, overgrowth syndromes, and intellectual disability (ID) syndromes.
Dr. Boccuto received both his MD in Medicine as well as his Post-Doctorate in Genetics from Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, an Italian private research college founded in 1921. Under the guidance of Professor Neri in Rome, Dr. Boccuto trained in multiple areas of hereditary cancer, overgrowth, and intellectual disabilities. Currently, he is characterizing the metabolic profiles of cells from patients with autism, ID, and overgrowth, as well as mental disorders such as schizophrenia, ADD/ADHD, and Tourette syndrome. Dr. Boccuto works on metabolomic assays in order to characterize the metabolic profiles of cell lines from individuals with various genetic conditions. He is also actively involved in translational medicine and genetic treatment.
Dr. Boccuto has been garnered with numerous awards throughout his career, including a 2017 Executive Award for Best Research Scientist in South Carolina, Best Poster at the 2016 Phelan-McDermid Syndrome International Family Conference, Best Poster at the Synaptopathies Meeting in Neurodevelopmental Disorders in Washington, DC, and a Young Investigator Awards at the Second International Phelan-McDermid Syndrome Symposium in Orlando, Florida. He was also awarded a 2002-2003 for Best Italian Thesis in Genetic Oncology by Gianmichele Laccetti.
In order to stay current within his particular fields of study, Dr. Boccuto stands as a professional member of the American Society of Human Genetics. He is fluent in Italian, English, as well as Spanish, and enjoys playing soccer, photography, traveling, and reading in his spare time. Dr. Boccuto attributes his ongoing success to a lifelong quest for learning, problem-solving, and bettering the health of human beings.
