Dr. Dabus earned his medical degree from the Santos School of Medical Sciences-FCMS followed by Radiology residency at the State University of Campinas-UNICAMP. He subsequently completed a Neuroradiology fellowship at Northwestern University in Chicago, followed by Interventional Neuroradiology and Neurointerventional Surgery fellowships at Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology-Washington University in St. Louis and at Massachusetts General Hospital-Harvard Medical School in Boston.
In the past, he has served as an Assistant Professor of Radiology and Neurological Surgery at Feinberg School of Medicine of Northwestern University and as Director of Neuroangiography at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. Now, Dr. Dabus has extensive expertise in the minimally invasive treatment of cerebrovascular diseases including cerebral aneurysms and stroke as well as in the interventional treatment of craniofacial vascular malformations. He currently practices in Miami at the Miami Cardiac and Vascular Institute and is additionally affiliated with area hospitals, including Baptist Hospital of Miami and Doctors Hospital. Additionally, Dr. Dabus serves as an Associate Professor at the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine of Florida International University.
Dr. Dabus has several national and international publications including peer-reviewed manuscripts, invited review articles, and book chapters. Dr. Dabus is an active lecturer and serves as a reviewer for several scientific journals including Stroke, the European Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery, and the Journal of Neuroimaging, among others. Dr. Dabus also served as the Chair of the Outstanding Presentation Awards Committee for the Michael J. Brothers Memorial Award during the 2010 and 2012 American Society of Neuroradiology meetings as well as in committees at the RSNA and International Stroke Conference.
Radiologists use imaging to gather information about the structure and function of the human body that may be unavailable without surgery. They rely on penetrating radiation, such as X-rays, CT scans, and PET scans to diagnose diseases. They may also employ ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans.
Dr. Dabus is a senior member of the Society of NeuroInterventional Surgery and an active member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons/ Congress of Neurological Surgeons Cerebrovascular Section, which allows him to stay current in his field. He speaks Portuguese in addition to English, which allows him to treat a wide range of diverse patients. When he is not seeing patients, he enjoys spending time with friends and family members.
