Get to know the Student Nurse, Tawana C. McCou, who serves patients in Texas.
Tawana is a driven nursing student currently striving towards a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree at Aspen University. Her 27 years of experience in the healthcare field include operations management and dentistry.
She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Memphis, Tennessee. She pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology at the University of Memphis as a Pre-Dental Medicine student. Additionally, she attended an externship at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis where she received her nitrous oxide certification, coronal polishing education and worked temporarily with graduates who pursued dental specialties (Oral Surgery & Endodontics).
Throughout the years, she advanced from dental assisting to dental operations management to dental hygiene and became director of a dental support organization. After transferring to Aspen University School of Nursing from a Bachelor of Healthcare Administration & Dental Hygiene degree, she is continuing her education in order to earn her BSN and Doctor of Nursing Practice degree specializing as a family nurse practitioner.
Tawana decided to take additional classes on top of her current studies to further her knowledge of business and business management. Through this, she received a mini-MBA and Business Management Diploma along with multiple certifications in Advanced & Executive Leadership, Strategy & Operations, Finance & Accounting, Marketing & Communications, Human Resource Management, Essential Management, and International Business & Economics. In addition to her education, the College of Healthcare Professions at the University of Phoenix named her to their Dean’s List in 2021.
Her professional affiliations include the American Nurses Association, Today’s Nurse, the National Student Nurses Association, and the National Nurses in Business Association. On the academic front, she is a member of the Golden Key International Honor Society, the National Academy of Future Physicians and Medical Scientists Alumni, National Society of Collegiate Scholars Honor Society, and the National Society of Leadership and Success (Sigma Alpha Pi) honor society where she gained her advanced and executive certifications.
On a more personal note, she attributes her success to the support from her family.
