Dr. Heymann graduated with his Medical Degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 1965, giving him over five decades of experience in his field. After obtaining his Medical Degree he completed his Surgical Internship with Yale University School of Medicine. He then completed his residency with the Albert Einstein College of Medicine followed by a Clinical Surgery residency with the Lenox Hill Hospital, where he was chief resident. After completed his training he became the Chief of General Surgery in the Army at Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers in Europe.
Dr. Heymann currently practices within his private practice and is affiliated with Lenox Hill Hospital. He is also available to both patients and other physicians if they are in need of additional consultation. Dr. Heymann is certified by the American Board of Surgery. He holds an expertise in Advanced laparoscopic Surgery, traditional open surgery and modern Minimally Invasive Surgery, Reoperative surgery, and hernia surgery.
Minimally invasive surgery is performed with the aid of a telescope-like instrument called an endoscope, which is placed into the body through keyhole-sized surgical incisions. The telescope, connected to a video camera, provides the surgeon with a more detailed view of the operative site which allows for more precise work. The video camera projects a view of the operative site onto video monitors located in the operating room. Additional small incisions are made to allow the surgeon to use tiny specialized surgical instruments to perform the procedure.
