Recognized as a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (FACOG), the doctor is double board-certified in urogynecology and reconstructive pelvic surgery (URPS) as well as obstetrics & gynecology by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG). Dr. Akl has been successfully treating patients with interstitial cystitis (IC) since 2015 and has noticed that patients with IC have been significantly underdiagnosed and suffer for a long period of time before reaching the diagnosis of IC , even once diagnosed they are not able to get the right treatment for their IC symptoms due to lack of resources for patients and availability of trained physicians that could treat IC.
