Alan W. Pang: Assistant Professor at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center

Leading Innovations in Burn Surgery and Critical Care Medicine

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) is proud to announce the appointment of Alan W. Pang as Assistant Professor of Burn, Wound, Critical Care, and Trauma Surgery. Dr. Pang also serves as the Associate Program Director for the Burn Fellowship at the Timothy J. Harnar Regional Burn Unit. His diverse background in medicine, coupled with his passion for research and education, positions him as a vital asset to our institution and the community.

Dr. Pang, a native of Chicago, Illinois, holds a professional Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) and a Master’s Degree in Biology from the Illinois Institute of Technology. He completed his Medical Degree at the Chicago Medical School before advancing to a General Surgery Residency at the University of California, San Francisco – Fresno. His pursuit of specialized surgical training culminated in a Burn and Wound Surgery Fellowship and a Surgical Critical Care Fellowship at TTUHSC, where he has now embraced his role as faculty.

Dr. Pang is double board-certified by the American Board of Surgery in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care and has completed certifications in Fundamentals of Endoscopic Surgery and Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery. His dedication to advancing surgical practices and education underscores TTUHSC’s mission to provide exceptional healthcare and training. His professional commitment extends to the community, where he is the medical and wound director of multiple institutions in the West Texas region.

With a keen interest in the intersection of technology and medicine, Dr. Pang’s research focuses on the application of machine learning and artificial intelligence in healthcare, particularly in burn diagnostics. He is dedicated to improving healthcare accessibility and enhancing healthcare processes and efficiency, particularly in the realm of burn wound healing and complex burn injury resuscitation. His dedication to this research has led to the development of patient-focused software and the formation of a start-up company.

Outside of his professional commitments, Dr. Pang is actively involved in medical student and resident education, community volunteering, and animal rescue efforts, reflecting his commitment to service and mentorship.
