Dr. Lechin is a board-certified pulmonologist who currently serves as Director of the Texas Institute of Chest and Sleep Disorders in Houston and Pasadena, Texas. Texas Institute of Chest and Sleep Disorders focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of the following pulmonary diseases and Sleep conditions such as: respiratory failure, asbestosis, asthma, allergy,  bronchitis, chronic cough, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, Interstitial Lung diseases, lung cancer, Pulmonary Hypertension, obstructive sleep apnea, pleural effusion, sarcoidosis, tuberculosis, among others.

Dr. Lechin served as an Instructor of Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry at Emil Friedman School from 1976 until 1978. He also served as an Instructor of Physiology at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the Central University of Venezuela from 1987 until 1988. Furthermore, he served as an Instructor of Physical Diagnosis at the James H. Quillen College of Medicine from 1990 until 1991. 

Dr. Lechin serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas since 1995. He also served as an Associate Professor at the University of Houston: College of Pharmacy in Houston, Texas from 2001 until 2018. 

Dr. Lechin received his medical degree from the Luis Razetti School of Medicine of the Central University of Venezuela in Caracas, Venezuela in 1986. He then went on to complete a clinical pharmacology fellowship at the Experimental Medicine Institute of the Central University of Venezuela, followed by an internship in internal medicine at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. He also completed a residency in internal medicine at the James H. Quillen College of Medicine, followed by a fellowship in pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine at the Baylor College of Medicine in 1994. 

Dr Lechin has published more than 70 research articles on clinical medicine, physiology, Clinical pharmacological and psychiatric medical fields. Many of this article have produced breakthrough physiology, pathophysiology, and new treatment in the areas of Pulmonary HTN, Sleep Medicine, Hypoglycemia, Pancreatitis, Cancer, Myasthenia Gravis, Asthma, Crohn’s Disease, Ulcerative Colitis, Hypertension, among others. The research carried by him and his team, have both, enhance the knowledge of the physiology of the Autonomic nervous system, pulmonary physiology and pathophysiology, sleep physiology. This new findings allow his team create new treatments in medicine.

Dr. Lechin is a member of the American Medical Association, the Texas Medical Association, the American College of Physicians, and the American Federation for Medical Research. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians and a Fellow of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. 

Dr. Lechin is board-certified in internal medicine, critical care medicine, sleep medicine, and pulmonary medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Pulmonology is a medical specialty that deals with diseases involving the respiratory tract. A pulmonologist is certified to treat a variety of respiratory conditions, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), cystic fibrosis, lung cancer, sleep apnea, emphysema, and tuberculosis. They can draw on a number of therapies to treat these diseases, including antibiotics, steroids, and other medications. 

Dr. Lechin has received several awards throughout his line of work, including Patients’ Choice Award (2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011) and Most Compassionate Doctor (2010) – among others. In addition to English, he is fluent in Spanish.
