Serving as a leader and a mentor for the medical community, he began his dedication to the medical field at Pan American University where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. He then went on to attend the University of Texas Health and Science Center San Antonio (UTHSCSA) Medical School, before completing his residency training at the UTHSCSA McAllen Family Practice Residency Program.
As a testament of his continued education, the doctor is board-certified in family medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM). The ABFM is a non-profit, independent medical association of American physicians who practice family medicine and its sub-specialties.
Remaining up to date in his field, Dr. Lopez Jr. is an active member of the American Medical Association, the Texas Medical Association, the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Texas Academy of Family Physicians, the Texas Statewide Family Practice Preceptorship Program, the Hidalgo-Starr County Medical Society, and the Border Health Caucus.
Among his other roles, he can be found on staff at Doctors Hospital at Renaissance, McAllen Medical Center, and the McAllen Heart Hospital. He has also participated in numerous research projects including Healthy People 2000, and a clinical project aimed at improving patient compliance.
Establishing himself as an active mentor to future practitioners, Dr. Lopez Jr. serves as an Assistant Professor for the UTHSCSA and McAllen Family Practice Residency program. In addition, he has been a formal preceptor, leading rotations and presentations in practice management, OB/Med, and conferences with residents.
