Dr. Chen has been in practice for nearly two decades. Her career in medicine began in 2002 when she graduated with her Doctorate in Medicine from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, after a Doctorate in Philosophy in Human Genetics in 2000. Her thesis work on genes involved in hematopoiesis yielded both publications and a patent. Following medical school, Dr. Chen completed her residency and fellowship with Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas.
Dr. Chen is certified by the American Board of Pathology in Clinical Pathology and is subspecialty Board certified in Transfusion Medicine and Blood Banking. She has dedicated her life to delivering compassionate care at the cutting edge of medicine. She is determined to push the frontier of Transfusion Medicine, providing high quality, individualized care in order to ensure the most optimal results. With a passion for her work, Dr. Chen is noted for her expertise in hemostasis during complicated open heart surgeries, as well as direct clinical management of challenging patient situations in Blood Banking & Transfusion Medicine. Dr. Chen also contributes to pioneering research in Transfusion Medicine, seeking to identify genetic risk factors for complications of blood transfusions.
Dr. Chen keeps current with the newest developments, guidelines, and procedures in her field by remaining a distinguished member of the South Central Association of Blood Banks, of which she is a member of the Board of Directors, the American Association of Blood Banks, the Texas Medical Association, the Harris County Medical Society, and the Texas Society of Pathologists. She has also been a member of the Association for Molecular Pathology, and the College of American Pathologists. Dr. Chen is regularly invited to speak at regional and national association meetings. Dr. Chen currently practices with Gulf Coast Pathology Associates, practicing at Memorial Hermann Hospital and with HCA.
