In addition to providing clinical care, Dr. Stephany was the Chief of Hospital Medicine and an Associate Professor at the Medical College of Wisconsin. “My greatest passion as a leader is mentoring others to reach beyond what they thought they were capable of attaining and watching them discover the depth of their own abilities. I have found that throughout my career, I move forward to the next day, project, challenge, or adventure, not because of where I will end up on the other side, but rather, how the care delivery will be better for patients because of what I am doing. It means being willing to roll up your sleeves, be frontline enough to understand things, and guide a team through process….acknowledge that it takes a team, and that in reality a good leader should be proudest when the TEAM is known for the work. In other words, when the leader is a supporting character, and the TEAM shines, success has been truly achieved” she expressed.

Back in 2004, Dr. Stephany obtained her medical degree from SUNY Upstate Medical University. She then went on to complete a combined residency in internal medicine and pediatrics at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina in 2008.

Black Belt Lean Six Sigma trained, she has attended all levels of the Society of Hospital Medicine Leadership Academy. She has a passion for hospital administration and operations, high value cost conscious care, and QI/QA.

Committed to her profession, Dr. Stephany is board-certified in pediatrics and pediatric hospital medicine by the American Board of Pediatrics, whose mission is to advance child health by certifying pediatricians who meet standards of excellence and are committed to continuous learning and improvement.

Likewise, she is board-certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine, a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

In order to stay up to date in her field, Dr. Stephany remains a member of a number of professional organizations, including the American College of Physicians, the Society of Hospital Medicine (Senior Fellow), the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American College of Surgeons, the Society of General Internal Medicine, the Medical Society of Milwaukee, and the American Medical Association.

Pediatrics is the branch of medicine that involves the medical care of infants, children, and adolescents. Pediatric hospitalists are pediatricians who work primarily in hospitals. They care for children in many hospital areas, including the pediatric ward, labor and delivery, the newborn nursery, the emergency department, the neonatal intensive care unit, and the pediatric intensive care unit.

Internal medicine is the medical specialty dealing with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of adult diseases. Physicians specializing in internal medicine are called internists. They manage and prevent common and complex diseases by providing comprehensive care and promoting overall well-being.
